What to set, and then leave alone
A deposit that matches the piece
$80 to $150 on a $180 sitting, and more on a full day. It counts toward the piece, so nobody is paying extra to book. Deposits are already normal in this trade, which makes this the easiest trade to set up.
Forty-eight to seventy-two hours
A blocked-out day needs real notice, because you cannot refill six hours on a Friday night. Inside your window, a late cancel is charged the fee you set. Outside it, they move themselves.
Then nothing
Reminders go out before every sitting. Intake collects consent and reference images. Follow-ups are drafted so somebody halfway through a sleeve books the next session instead of drifting.
None of this is a tactic you can run from a notebook. A deposit needs a payment processor, and a no-show fee needs a card that was authorised at booking. That is the part software has to do. How the charge works.

Questions from tattoo artists
Can I require a deposit before a tattoo appointment?
Yes, and it is the trade this fits most naturally, because deposits are already how tattooing works. Sessurely collects it at booking on your own page and holds it against that sitting.
Does the deposit go toward the tattoo?
Yes. It comes off what they owe on the day. If they no-show or cancel inside your window, it is forfeited to you instead, under the policy they agreed to at booking.
Can I collect consent forms before the sitting?
Yes. Intake forms are answered when they book, so consent and reference images are on the client’s record before they walk in rather than in your DMs on the morning.
What about multi-session pieces?
Each sitting is its own booking with its own deposit, and the client’s record shows every session, what has been paid and what is still owed on the piece.
I guest or rent a room in someone else's studio. Is this for me?
